What is Color Guard?
Color Guard is a sport and performing art that combines dance with the spinning of equipment such as flags, rifles, sabres, and other props. Our program currently competes at the High School A level, which is considered a beginner to intermediate division. This season, our goal is to grow within this division while expanding our vocabulary, design, and overall excellence. A major focus will be placed on building strong fundamentals through technique training, dance development, and performance quality.
We believe in an individual first program.
Here at Sonora High School Color Guard, you are more than a performer. The wellbeing of the student will always come first. The best way to create a wonderful show is to create a wonderful performer. And to create a wonderful performer we must uplift and prioritize the individual. Individuals who believe their talents can be developed (through hard work, good strategies, and input from others) have a growth mindset. Effort goes hand in hand with talent. Anything you put your mind to, you can do it!

Benefits for a Lifetime

What is Expected?
Attendance
Regular attendance is essential to success in color guard. Students are expected to attend class consistently, as each rehearsal builds skills, technique, and confidence. In addition to class time, after-school practices may be held up to two days a week, and all-day Saturday rehearsals may be required during competition season. Because color guard is a team activity, every student plays an important role in the overall show—formations, timing, and visual impact depend on everyone being present and prepared. Commitment to rehearsals ensures the best experience for each performer and the strongest performance for our team as a whole.
Performances
Fall: The Color Guard and Band perform at parades and parade competitions in the Fall.
Winter: The Winter Guard seasons begins in February. Our Color Guard will typically participate in showcases, competitions and championships.
Competition and performance days are all-day commitments.
Our program is made possible through the leadership of our director, the dedication of our booster organization, and the ongoing support of our families. Parent support plays a vital role in our students’ success.
